Terms & Conditions

Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before using our website or hiring our renovation services.

1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to Home Slate Living. By accessing or using our website (homeslateliving.com), requesting a quote, booking a consultation, or hiring us for renovation services, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, please discontinue use of our website and services immediately.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("Client," "you," "your") and Home Slate Living ("Company," "we," "us," "our"). You represent that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement.

2. Description of Services

Home Slate Living provides premium home renovation and remodeling services across the United States, including but not limited to:

  • Home decor and interior design
  • Exterior and garden renovation
  • Home security installation and maintenance
  • Fire security installation and maintenance
  • Roof installation and maintenance
  • Solar panel installation and maintenance
  • Window installation and replacement
  • Floor installation and maintenance
  • Bathroom renovation and remodeling

The exact scope, deliverables, timeline, and pricing for any project will be defined in a separate Service Agreement or contract executed between the Client and the Company.

3. Quotes & Estimates

All quotes provided by Home Slate Living are estimates based on the information available at the time of quotation. We offer:

  • Free initial consultation: Conducted in-home or virtually at no cost
  • Itemized quotes: Provided within 24 hours of consultation, valid for 30 days
  • Fixed-price contracts: For defined-scope projects (no cost overruns unless scope changes)
  • Time-and-materials billing: For projects with unpredictable scope, billed at agreed hourly rates

Quotes may be revised if: (a) hidden conditions are discovered during renovation (e.g., water damage, structural issues), (b) the Client requests scope changes, or (c) material prices change significantly before contract execution. Any revised quote requires written Client approval before work proceeds.

4. Service Contracts

Every renovation project requires a signed Service Agreement that includes:

  • Detailed scope of work and specifications
  • Project timeline with milestone schedule
  • Total cost, payment schedule, and financing terms
  • Materials list with brand and quality specifications
  • Warranty coverage details
  • Change order procedures
  • Termination and cancellation clauses

The Service Agreement supersedes any verbal discussions and takes precedence over website content in case of conflict. By signing the Service Agreement, the Client accepts these Terms & Conditions by reference.

5. Payment Terms

Standard payment terms for renovation projects:

  • Deposit: 25% of total project cost due upon contract signing (non-refundable except as stated in Section 8)
  • Milestone payments: Scheduled at defined project stages (e.g., demolition complete, materials delivered, finishing)
  • Final payment: Due within 7 days of project completion and Client walkthrough
  • Accepted methods: ACH transfer, credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), check, or financing through approved lenders

Late payments incur a 1.5% monthly interest charge (18% APR). Projects may be paused if payments are more than 7 days overdue. A 5% discount is available for full upfront payment on projects under $10,000.

6. Financing & Loans

Home Slate Living partners with third-party lenders to offer renovation financing. The following terms apply:

  • Financing applications are processed by independent lenders, not Home Slate Living
  • Loan approval, interest rates, and terms are determined solely by the lender
  • We are not responsible for lender decisions, credit inquiries, or loan servicing
  • Promotional 0% APR offers are subject to lender qualifications and may accrue retroactive interest if not paid in full within the promotional period
  • Clients should review all loan documents carefully before signing

7. Warranty Policy

Home Slate Living offers the following warranty coverage:

  • Standard warranty: 10 years covering workmanship and materials on Essential and Premium packages
  • Extended warranty: 15 years on Luxury package projects
  • Manufacturer warranties: Apply to specific products (appliances, solar panels, windows) and are passed through to the Client
  • Lifetime maintenance support: Annual inspections and discounted repairs for as long as you own the home

Warranty Exclusions:

  • Damage caused by Client negligence, misuse, or improper maintenance
  • Natural disasters, fires, floods, or other force majeure events
  • Modifications or repairs made by third parties not authorized by Home Slate Living
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Issues caused by pre-existing structural or system defects not disclosed prior to renovation

Warranty claims must be submitted in writing to warranty@homeslateliving.com. We will respond within 5 business days and schedule repairs within 30 days.

8. Cancellations & Refunds

8.1 Client Cancellation

  • Before work begins: Full refund minus the 25% deposit (covers design, permits, scheduling)
  • During demolition/prep stage: 50% refund of remaining balance
  • After construction begins: No refund; Client is responsible for completed work and materials
  • Cancellation must be submitted in writing with 7 days' notice

8.2 Company Cancellation

If Home Slate Living must cancel a project due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., force majeure, permit denial), the Client will receive a full refund of all payments made, including deposit, within 14 business days.

9. Client Responsibilities

To ensure smooth project execution, the Client agrees to:

  • Provide accurate property information and disclose known issues (mold, asbestos, structural problems)
  • Obtain necessary HOA approvals and provide site access during agreed working hours (8 AM – 7 PM)
  • Maintain utility access (water, electricity, internet) during the renovation period
  • Remove personal belongings from work areas before demolition begins
  • Make timely decisions on selections (materials, finishes, fixtures) to avoid delays
  • Communicate concerns through the designated project manager
  • Make payments according to the agreed schedule
  • Not engage other contractors on the same scope without written approval

The Client agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Home Slate Living, its officers, employees, contractors, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including attorney fees) arising from:

  • Inaccurate information provided by the Client

  • Third-party modifications to our work without authorization
  • Client's violation of any law or third-party rights

13. Force Majeure

Home Slate Living is not liable for delays or failures to perform due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:

  • Government actions, permit delays, or regulatory changes
  • Labor disputes, material shortages, or supply chain disruptions
  • War, terrorism, or civil unrest
  • Utility outages or infrastructure failures

In such events, project timelines will be reasonably extended, and we will work with the Client to minimize disruption. Either party may terminate the contract if force majeure conditions persist beyond 90 days.

14. Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising from these Terms or our services will be resolved through the following process:

  1. Direct negotiation: Parties attempt to resolve the dispute through good-faith discussions within 30 days

  4. Venue: Arbitration will take place in Kenai, Alaska, and the arbitrator's award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction
  5. Governing law: These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alaska, regardless of conflict of law principles

Class action lawsuits are waived to the maximum extent permitted by law. The prevailing party in any dispute is entitled to recover reasonable attorney fees and costs.
